CyberKnife

Poznań is the third location in Poland (following Gliwice and Wieliszew) to use a CyberKnife – a cybernetic knife to treat the most difficult cancer cases. The high-tech device by Accuray, US, worth nearly PLN 22 million, is available for patients of our Centre. A rapid development of radiotherapy resulted in the creation of a robotic accelerator that provides a significant support for classic surgery. There are just a few hundreds of such machines worldwide, with only three of them in Poland (Gliwice, Poznań and Wieliszew near Warsaw) CyberKnife is designed for two groups of cancer patients: those with a high chance for long lasting recovery and, therefore, subjected to radical treatment and those with advanced stage of cancer. Owing to Cyberknife, those patients can be treated with palliative radiotherapy to improve their quality of life and mitigate cancer symptoms.
