“Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy” will be an international and multidisciplinary journal that will publish papers describing original researches as well as reviews of articles. This includes: clinical brachytherapy, combined modality treatment, advances in radiobiology, hyperthermia and tumor biology, as well as physical aspects relevant to brachytherapy, particularly in the field of imaging, dosimetry and radiation therapy planning. Original contributions will involve experimental studies of combined modality treatment, tumor sensitization and normal tissue protection, molecular radiation biology, and clinical investigations of cancer treatment that include brachytherapy. Another field of interest will be the educational corner of the journal.
“Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy” will publish original peer-reviewed papers, technical advances, reviews, and point/counterpoint on controversial issues. Original articles that address any aspect of brachytherapy are always welcome. Educational papers will be presented and prepared by invited authors. Letters to the Editor-in-Chief are highly encouraged.
“Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy” will be issued 4 times per year in paper and electronic form. The first issue will be released in March 2009. The Journal will be published entirely in English and the only exception to this regulation applies to its supplements. Future supporting Societies may use supplements to publish conference materials in their native languages. However, the national Co-Editors along with the national team will be responsible for the scientific merit and the correct format of the supplements.
Many of the papers on the subject of brachytherapy are published in several different magazines and at the moment there is only one accessible journal published by American Brachytherapy Society that gathers articles about brachytherapy.
Therefore, in order to promote scientific achievements in Europe and outside Europe, the representatives of Polish Brachytherapy Society and Polish Study Group of Head and Neck Cancer, decided to create a common scientific journal that would be dedicated entirely to brachytherapy.
As a result of long chain of discussions and analysis of the subject, the representatives have reached an agreement to establish title and aims of the journal, as well as first board members.
With the beginning of the year 2009, the journal will be co-edited by representatives of the supporting societies.
At the moment many recognized brachytherapists and radiation oncologists contribute their effort to lead the journal through its transitional period and international development.
The Editorial Office will be placed in Poznań, headed by Mrs Joanna Koszewska and accompanied by dedicated team of experts: Dr Adam Chicheł (medical consultant), Dr Tomasz Piotrowski (statistician), Mrs Sylwia Ciesińska (administrative assistant), Mr Richard Aschroft (English consultant) and Ms Małgorzata Rajewicz (English consultant).
The Great Poland Cancer Center will host the Editorial Office. The Editors, the Editorial Board and the Editorial Office will be constantly improving the quality of published papers and the format of our magazine. I hope that the effort to improve the scientific level of published articles will be effectively visible in many manuscripts sent for publication. Editors will take measures towards necessary placement our journal in national and international indexes. We will make sure to carefully review all received manuscripts.
