{"id":3387,"date":"2025-10-30T09:04:42","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T08:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wco.pl\/about-us\/hospital-structure\/units\/zaklad-epidemiologii-i-profilaktyki-nowotworow\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T15:21:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T14:21:21","slug":"cancer-epidemiology-and-prevention","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wco.pl\/en\/about-us\/hospital-structure\/units\/cancer-epidemiology-and-prevention\/","title":{"rendered":"Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column]<h1 class=\" \" data-delay='0'>Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention<\/h1>[vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<strong>Main areas of activity:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Unit (CEPU) consists of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Epidemiology Laboratory,<\/li>\n<li>Screening Laboratory,<\/li>\n<li>Wielkopolska Cancer Registry Office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Unit\u2019s responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Health promotion education and cancer prevention\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>, to built cancer awareness and improve community\u2019s quality of life by creating conditions and developing motivation, knowledge and skills related to healthy lifestyle and its impact on cancer prevention.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Breast cancer screening programmes<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0at the basic and extended level.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>\u2022 Scientific analyses and studies on cancer epidemiology<\/strong><\/em>. The Wielkopolska Cancer Registry Office supervises the cancer registry system in Wielkopolska, prepares bulletins on cancer incidence and mortality in the region and cooperates in epidemiological studies with scientific centres, provincial consultants and international organisations. Owing to the high quality of data, the Office takes part in international projects, such as:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/csg.lshtm.ac.uk\/\">CONCORD<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurocare.it\/\">EUROCARE<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.essoweb.org\/projects\/eurecca-cancer-care\/\">EURECCA<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iicc.iarc.fr\/\">IICC-3<\/a>. Member of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iacr.com.fr\/\">IACR\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.encr.eu\/\">ENCR<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 2005-2015, the Unit coordinated the the actions of institutions implementing health policy programmes under the \u201cNational Cancer Control Programme\u201d, including: the Provincial Coordinating Centre for the \u201cPopulation-Based Breast Cancer Early Detection Programme\u201d, and the office of the \u201cPrimary Prevention Programme for the Wielkopolska Region\u201d, and \u201cImprovement of Cancer Data Collection and Registration System\u201d. Annual quality checks of mammography equipment used for screening and medical personnel training conducted by the CEPU have contributed to a significant improvement in the quality of screening tests in Wielkopolska. The objective is to reduce cancer mortality in the region.
